Clean & pure tap water

Reverse Osmosis Filters

What is reverse osmosis?

To answer this question, we must first examine what “osmosis” means. Osmosis, also sometimes termed “direct osmosis”, is a naturally occurring process whereby molecules of a solvent will spontaneously migrate from a weaker or less concentrated solution to a stronger or more concentrated solution through a plasma membrane. Some everyday examples include the absorption of water from our blood by our kidneys and the absorption of water from the soil by plant roots.
Now we can turn to Reverse Osmosis (or RO). This is a technology which uses the principle of osmosis to extract the vast majority of contaminants from water by using energy or high pressure to push the water through a semipermeable membrane, thereby removing impurities from the water molecules including toxic heavy metals and minerals. The removal of the pollutants is based on their molecular weight and ionic charge, and this process essentially deionises or demineralises the water leaving you with desalinated water. The membrane, with its tiny pores, utilises a method known as “cross flow” or “cross filtration” which ensures that the membrane surface continually cleans itself as the rejected contaminants are pushed away from it; basically the filtered water goes one way and the contaminated water goes another way. Reverse osmosis technology is not new as it has been in use for over 40 years and so it is a tried and tested method but is continually being modernised and upgraded; it is the absolute best way to obtain pure drinking water without using dangerous chemical products. RO water filtration offers a low-maintenance, chemical-free option to achieve clean, great-tasting, pure water.
How Do 5 stage Reverse Osmosis Filters Work?

So how is reverse osmosis beneficial?

You get pure, healthy drinking water
The average adult in Ireland consumes approximately 2.2 litres of water per day (including that which is absorbed in our food); that’s over 800 litres a year! Drinking such a large volume means that you need to ensure that your tap water is safe for consumption. The World Health Organisation has recently released reports which outline the health benefits of drinking water which has been filtered using reverse osmosis technology. If you want an unlimited supply of fresh, clean water at your fingertips, contact AquaFilter.ie today!

Harmful impurities and chemicals are removed
AquaFilter.ie sell reverse osmosis filters which remove toxic metals (including mercury, aluminium, lead, copper, manganese, zinc), nitrates, cryptosporidium, dissolved salts (ions including sulphate), particles, colloids, pesticides, organics, pyrogens, pharmaceuticals, arsenic and bacteria as well as grit and dirt, while a healthy level of minerals such as calcium is retained. Most importantly the process removes chlorine and fluoride which have proven carcinogenic properties.
It improves taste
At AquaFilter.ie, our reverse osmosis filters produce great-tasting, delicious water; any odours are removed and the process greatly improves the general appearance of the water. The clear filtered water is also perfect for making crystalline, harder and clearer ice cubes, perfect for those lazy summer afternoons! If you’re concerned about your salt intake, our filters produce water that is suitable for use in low sodium diets.
Does Water taste Better From a Reverse Osmosis Filter? We Guarantee It Does!
Our filters are low maintenance, cost effective and sustainable
At AquaFilter.ie all of our filters are reasonably priced; the systems are fully automated and require little maintenance. They are very easy to clean and service. By using the correct type of filter for your needs and with experienced service support from AquaFilter.ie, your reverse osmosis system should deliver many years of high-purity water. Our filters can be used for water supplied by both large and small flow applications, including public municipal schemes or private borehole well water feed sources.
Is Reverse Osmosis Filtered Water Better For You Than Bottled Water?
It’s healthier, cheaper and more environmentally friendly than bottled water
Bottled water can cost up to 1000 times more than domestic tap water. In addition, as we all know it has a giant carbon footprint when we take into account the processing, bottling, and transportation of the bottled water, as well as the post-use issues of recycling or landfill. Not only that but plastic bottles also pose serious health risks with plastic leeching into the water.
With our filters you can be assured that your water is safe, and this can be achieved relatively cheaply, in the convenient setting of your home, and without carbon footprint concerns.

How do our filters work?

At AquaFilter.ie we offer an extensive range of easy-to-install, highly reliable reverse osmosis water filter systems which purify drinking water. Each filter achieves water purification by removing salts and other impurities which improves the overall properties of the water. In this water separation process, the contaminants are discharged through a reject stream. Our filters are built to the highest standards by the leading manufacturers in water treatment technology.  We supply three types of reverse osmosis filters, all of which use the 5-stage system.

5-Stage reverse osmosis water filter system

Using a 5-stage water filtration system our reverse osmosis filters at AquaFilter.ie deliver unrivalled quality water. This is how the 5-stage filter system works:
1st Stage 5 micron polypropylene filter (lifespan 6 months approx.)
Removes all particles above 5 microns from the water supply; this includes metals, general water sediment, dirt, rust and sand.

2nd Stage carbon filter (lifespan 6 months approx.)
Removes herbicides, pesticides, trihalomethanes, chlorine, organic chemicals, lead and aluminium. This enhances the taste and removes any unpleasant odours or colours.

3rd Stage 1 micron polypropylene filter (lifespan 6 months approx.)
Removes all particles above 1 micron from the water supply; this includes any remaining water sediment, as well as lead, copper, barium, chromium, mercury, sodium, fluoride, nitrate and selenium.

4th Stage RO membrane 50 GPD 0.001m rating (lifespan 24 months approx.)
This membrane creates the finest filtration. The treated water is forced through the membrane and any impure water is discarded; this removes any remaining hard water contaminants and only pure, filtered water enters the pressurised holding tank.

5th Stage in-line activated carbon filter (lifespan 6 months approx.)
Once the faucet is opened the water goes through a final carbon water filter that effectively polishes the water prior to your consumption.
